the art of daydreaming

Have you found yourself stuck in a loop of low motivation or feeling devoid of creativity?

When was the last time you sat and daydreamed

Not to be confused with getting caught in an endless stream of anxiety and doom predicting. Those are day-mares and we need to make a concerted effort to curb those so we can create some feel-good impact in our world.

I’m talking about a Shanice-Wilson-style-staring-out-the-window kind of daydream.  Why daydream? Daydreaming helps to lighten our mood, enhance our creativity, reduces anxiety and stress and helps to problem solve, something that's really helpful if you're stuck in an anxious thought loop! This is usually the moment where you think of all the reasons why you can’t practice daydreaming: No time, always distracted, people are always interrupting you, your mind won’t turn off, on and on and on.

Yeah, I know.

I’ve got all the same excuses too.

That’s why I PRACTICE

Practice daydreaming and making space for your dreams before you go to sleep.

Practice on the train.

At a red light (prepare to have people honk at you, it’s for the greater good).

Practice in the shower.

Practice any and everywhere.

Every day it gets a little easier than the day before. Every time we dive into the practice we’re letting our body know that we can do this, that’s it’s ok to slow down or reflect.

Practice is the key.

Schedule “day dreaming” and quiet time.

Write down what you want to daydream about. I know that sounds strange but it’s even stranger that we don’t daydream anymore.

Practice living out your wildest dreams and fantasies in your head. Do it over and over until you can feel it, touch it, smell it, hear it, taste it. Bring all of your senses into your daydream with you.

Practice being BORED and then practice daydreaming yourself out of boredom.

Daydreaming is the portal to possibility.

Allow yourself to step through it and witness how your daily world will start to change for the better.
